Community Ambassadors promote WGBH membership to the public at events held in our Brighton studios and out in the community. Volunteering for this position lets you participate in community events as a representative of WGBH, meeting new people while sharing your passion for public media.
The Development Office at WGBH is open year-round, and we always appreciate assistance with a variety of administrative tasks. These include helping with mailing projects, data entry, writing and editing scripts for the annual WGBH Auction, photocopying, making phone calls, organizing, and filing.
TV pledge volunteers answer phones and record pledges of support from donors as part of WGBH’s fundraising drives. Volunteering during our live fundraising drives is a great way to meet new people, experience the thrill of being on a live TV set, and support local public media.
Docents provide behind-the-scenes tours that include a visit to WGBH’s TV and radio production facilities, performance spaces, and more. Our Brighton studios provide the perfect venue to welcome the public for screenings, live music, and other events that amplify the impact of public media. Read more about our studio tour program.
Help out by babysitting while mothers participate in group activities at YWCA Fina House transitional housing programs. This position requires training and a background check.
Volunteers help provide administrative assistance for community education programs in our Women’s Health Advocacy Services.
Tutors or computer coaches for our After School Program to work individually with school-age children. This is a good opportunity for high school students. We also need adult tutors to work with one of our YWCA Fina House housing residents to help them earn their GED.
Help out as a group by painting, performing yard work and other ‘spruce up’ projects at our various site locations including Lawrence, Haverhill, Lynn, and Camp Y-Wood in Salem, NH.
Male mentors are needed for the boys in our YWCA Fina House OASIS program. Training and background checks are required.
We are seeking volunteer assistants to provide direct outreach to immigrant communities throughout the Boston area for the English for Advancement program. In addition to learning more English, students will work with their career coach to develop resumes and cover letters, search for jobs, prepare for job interviews, and receive post-placement follow up.
